Position Overview

We are in search of an experienced data scientist to become part of our Data Science team, tasked with the development of a hydraulic simulation system for water leakage detection. Your primary responsibilities will span from the development of a hydraulic simulation system for water leakage detection to Deep Learning Model Development and Deployment for Computer Vision projects. As a Data Scientist, you will primarily be tasked with constructing and deploying advanced data-based models for enhancing sensor placement in hydraulic and thermal dynamic systems. A fundamental part of your role will involve liaising with clients to gather requirements and ensure our solutions align with their needs. An ideal candidate will exhibit mastery of machine learning techniques, data pipeline development, and system architecture, and have the ability to translate complex technical concepts into a language comprehensible by non-technical individuals.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Architect data-driven solutions for hydraulic simulation systems, optimal sensor placement, considering client challenges and technical constraints.
  • Support Deep Learning Model Development and Deployment for Computer Vision projects.
  • Act as a technical point of contact, facilitating client interactions including project meetings, technical reviews, and solution demonstrations.
  • Support client on-site deployment for both hydraulic simulation systems and computer vision projects.
  • Identify project scope, deliverables, and success criteria to align with client expectations.
  • Perform Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and other data science analyses to generate tractable insights from complex data sets.
  • Work cross-functionally with domain experts, sales, and product owners to ensure effective collaboration and solution development.
  • Develop and implement machine learning models, utilizing test driven development.
  • Collaborate with the development team to integrate simulation models with the existing front-end and back-end systems.
  • Create web services/APIs for serving model results.
  • Mentor junior engineers, perform code reviews, and document design decisions.
  • Ensure high quality deliverables consistent with client and company expectations

Qualifications and Skills

  • BS in Computer Science, Data Science, Mechanical Engineering, Thermal / Fluid Physics, Chemical Engineering or a similar field.
  • Hands-on experience with hydraulic and thermal dynamic modeling software, such as EPANET, Modelica, WaterGEMS, etc.
  • 4+ years of experience with modern languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
  • 4+ years of experience with machine learning techniques and libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, Scikit-learn, pandas, numpy.
  • Optimization techniques and fine-tuning models.
  • 3+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
  • Experience with data ingestion, organization, and analysis from various sources (e.g., CSV, relational databases).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Requirements

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in a scientific, engineering or related domain.
  • Experience in environmental data analysis, water systems, or similar industries.
  • Experience with sensor data and geospatial data analysis.
  • Consulting, technical sales, or solution architecture experience.
  • Research experience with high impact publications.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and tools such as AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Hub.
  • Experience with MLOps and other production level implementation frameworks and pipelines.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git flow).
  • Experience working with international cross-functional teams and/or customer facing work.
